■ Urban Poverty

LOOB has also started programs since 2007 for Urban Poverty Area.
・Calajunan, Mandurrial, Iloilo (Communities near dumpsite)

These are our Partner Communities for Work Camp Projects where we and the people in the community envision to develop the quality of life thru several work projects such as planting of mangroves, construction of classrooms, drainage system, potable water system and community and livelihood, among others. LOOB and these communities have established a strong and enduring relationship so that Japanese and Filipino volunteers could work and learn, and fulfill their potential.

Iloilo City ---City of Love---

市内のショッピングモールLOOB is based on Iloilo city, in the province of Iloilo, in the island of Panay which is the 6th largest island in the Philippines consisting of 4 provinces; Iloilo, Antique, Aklan and Capiz. Iloilo city has population of approximately 400,000 and has been historically developed to be the center of commercial and technological industry in the Western Visayas Region. As people in the region are well known for their gentle and friendly character, the city is called "The City of Love".
There are more than 5 modern shopping malls within the city, and also many historical sites as reminders of the Spanish colonialization. One of the popular sites is the Saint Villanueva church (built in 1787) in the town of Miag-ao, 50 minutes drive from the city. This church shows the unique texture of Spanish and native influences, and is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Additionally, a local festival, the “Dinagyang”is held every January, where many local and foreign tourists joins and enjoy the dance contests and celebration.
